Efter att ha släppt låtarna ”Starting Line”, ”Motion” och ”Place In Me” är det idag äntligen dags för Luke Hemmings att släppa debutalbumet ”When Facing The Things We Turn Away From”. I samband med dagens albumrelease lanseras också den nya singeln ”Baby Blue”.
Den australiensiska stjärnan är sedan tidigare känd från bandet 5 Seconds of Summer som det senaste årtiondet haft stora framgångar världen över. Det var inte förrän mitt i en pandemi som Luke Hemmings utforskade sitt låtskrivande och landade i att vilja satsa på sitt soloprojekt vid sidan om bandet. Luke Hemmings om låtskrivandet mitt i en pandemi; “I wrote out of need, because it’s what I love. After a couple of weeks, I thought, ‘What am I going to spend my time doing?’ I started exploring and doing my own production. It didn’t sound similar to the band, and I wanted to push myself. That was the genesis of it.”
En bit in i den kreativa processen klev Luke in i studion tillsammans med låtskrivaren och producenten Sammy Witte, som tidigare skrivit hits åt King Princess och Maggie Rogers. Luke Hemmings fann utrymme att utveckla sitt låtskrivande och artisteri tillsammans med Sammy och han fick möjlighet att utmana sin kreativa sida, både som låtskrivare, musiker och individ. Resultatet blev 12 intima poplåtar på albumet ”When Facing The Things We Turn Away From” som Luke själv beskriver så här; “I’ve loved songwriting for my whole life. I’m in a constant pursuit of bettering myself in that department. My entire world revolves around music. By writing these lyrics, I learned about myself. A lot of the songs are about now, but some of them are written from the perspective of a 17-year-old kid in the thick of the industry. Those perspectives clash on this album. It was a challenge to create on my own for the first time rather than in the context of a group. It naturally turned into a separate entity, but it also co-exists with 5 Seconds Of Summer as another part of me.”
